Recently, East Maine District 63 was recognized for its work with students and families who are homeless.
At their January 10th School Board Meeting, North Cook ISC's Homeless Liaison Dr. Tom Bookler recognized D63's efforts as the first district in the state to implement HB 261. Dr. Bookler stated, “We knew there was a better way to help these students. And the challenges of guiding this amendment through the Legislature to the Governor’s desk was entirely worth the effort: the empathy of East Maine District 63’s caring staff and their exceptional dedication to helping these families find new homes was impressive. D63 has really led the way, serving as an excellent model of how this program can work. We look forward to other districts throughout Illinois following suit.”
