Types of PL

Administrator Academies
A learning experience in which Illinois school/district administrators participate to meet legislated requirements for continuous, high-quality, professional development (PD) to maintain PEL certification.
- One AA course must be completed within each fiscal year that the administrator is working, totaling at least 6 hours.
CREDIT EARNED: 1 AA or 6 PDHs

Educator Workshops
A learning experience/continued training, in which Illinois educators participate to meet legislated requirements for continuous, high-quality, professional development (PD) to maintain PEL certification.

Informational Meetings
Brief meetings centered around a specific topic of interest.

Micro-Credentials
A job-embedded, asynchronous, online learning experience in which educators develop skills to support COVID-related challenges including learning loss, student well-being, and equity. We have partnered with BloomBoard to offer NCISC educators a 15% discount.
- University of St. Francis graduate-level credit offered to educators who successfully complete the program. Each micro-credential is worth one graduate credit. Three micro-credentials make up one micro-endorsement.

NCISC Collaborative Series
North Cook school and district leaders in like positions/roles meet regularly to share strategies, ideas, navigate issues, learn together, and collaborate to problem solve and collaborate.
A North Cook ISC representative facilitates these NCISC Collaborative Series meetings. Guest speakers will be in attendance on occasion.

Online Course or Online Book Study
Learning occurs on the learner’s schedule within the required timeframe (see course description). Open enrollment allows for many participants to join a course at any given time. The instructor may post various instructional tasks for learners to engage in, such as: self-guided lesson modules, video content, reading articles, reviewing posted presentations, completing projects/assignments on the Canvas platform (similar to Schoology, Blackboard, and D2L).

Delivery Methods of PL

IN-PERSON
Face-to-face sessions delivered onsite with an instructor facilitating the PL.
Location: at NCISC in Des Plaines
ZOOM SESSION
A synchronous (live) session delivered via Zoom in real-time with an instructor facilitating the PL.

Location: online via ZOOM
HYFLEX SESSION
(Also sometimes called "concurrent" sessions.) A hyflex session is a hybrid or blended model of learning/collaborating where some participants attend the sessions in-person while other participants are simultaneously remote, streaming "live" into the session.
ONLINE COURSE or ONLINE BOOK STUDY
An asynchronous, self-directed, online course
