Evaluator Trainings (PERA)

• Teacher Evaluators: Those who are required to evaluate teachers must take a two-day Administrator Academy (AA2001: Illinois Performance Evaluation – Initial Teacher Evaluation Training). Find upcoming dates for AA2001.
• Principal Evaluators: Those who are required to evaluate principals and assistant principals must take a two-day Administrator Academy (AA4050: Illinois Performance Evaluation - Initial Principal Evaluation Training), which can only be delivered in-person. Find upcoming dates for AA4050.
• Teacher AND Principal Evaluators: Those who evaluate. both teachers AND principals/assistant principals must take both AA2001 and AA4050, requiring four days of training in total.

PERA requires all evaluators who have taken the initial evaluator pre-qualification training(s) must complete the retraining within their next five year renewal cycle following the cycle in which they completed the initial training (105 ILCS 5/24A-3).

Course Completion Guide and Timeline: 

• Teacher Evaluator Retraining AAs: 
  • Choose 1 Professional Practice Retraining Academy for Teacher Evaluation (AA1448, AA1451, AA1452 or AA1801) ; and
  • Choose 1 Student Growth Retraining Academy for Teacher Evaluation (AA3000, AA4114)
• Principal Evaluator Retraining AAs: Take the two-day Professional Growth/Student Growth Retraining Academy designed for Principal Evaluation (AA4050)
• Teacher AND Principal Evaluator Retraining AAs: 
  • Choose 1 Professional Practice Retraining Academy for Teacher Evaluation (AA1448, AA1451, AA1452 or AA1801) ; and
  • Choose 1 Student Growth Retraining Academy for Teacher Evaluation (AA3000, AA4114); and
  • Take the two-day Professional Growth/Student Growth Retraining Academy designed for Principal Evaluation (AA4050)

Any administrator or teacher leader who works at least 50% of their school year in an Illinois public school in a position that requires an administrative endorsement must meet the following requirements to renew their licensure:

• Take at least one approved Administrator Academy course  during each fiscal year (July 1-June 30)
• Complete a minimum of 100 hours of professional learning  during the five-year period of the license
• Meet the PERA evaluator retraining requirements listed above (which  count toward the annual Administrator Academy requirement)
