Student Online Personal Protection Act (SOPPA)

What is SOPPA?

The Student Online Personal Protection Act, or SOPPA, is the student data privacy law that regulates students' covered information by schools, the Illinois State Board of Education, and education technology vendors. This law went into effect on July 1, 2021.

All parents will be notified by NCYAA in the event of a data breach. The following is a list of known data breaches: 

  • NCYAA has not been informed by PowerSchool whether NCYAA student or staff data was involved in their December 2024 PowerSchool Student Information System data breach.  If notified, the required information will be posted here within 30 days of notification. (Updated January 24, 2025)
