NCYAA E-Learning Plan

Background

NCYAA staff have collaborated with school districts in Cook County to build an e-Learning Plan for students in the case of school closures. This plan has been approved by the Executive Director for North Cook Intermediate Service Center and modeled after other approved programs.

General Education

All NCYAA students will be given access to a Chromebook to support educational activities and homework. All students have access to an NCYAA Chromebook to access e-learning lessons and content. Families in need of internet access, please follow the link to the Comcast website. Students and families can request an NCYAA Internet Hotspot by calling the school office at (847) 803-3705. If students are not able to access assignments online, the student and/or families should coordinate the retrieval of school work from the NCYAA Campus with NCYAA Staff. The students have five school days to return the completed assignments.

Students with Special Needs or 504 Accommodations

Teachers and staff will design assignments aligned with any accommodations and/ or modifications outlined in Individual Education Plans (IEPs) or 504 plans.

Teachers

All teachers have NCYAA electronic devices and have access to GSuite, Google Classroom, PowerSchool, Kami, and Edgenuity. These tools are used to post assignments, communicate with families, and monitor assignments. Teachers will record grades in PowerSchool.

Instruction

For all grade levels, teachers will design instruction to take the equivalent amount of time allotted in five clock hours of school work. The e-learning lessons will mirror the students’ typical schedule to include all scheduled content classes: English, Math, Science, History, Careers, and Physical Education. Teachers will use Google Classroom and Edgenuity to share lessons. Students and staff regularly take advantage of electronic tools for educational purposes and are well-versed in their use.

Attendance

Student attendance to each class will recorded by student submission of school work or participation in Google Classroom or Edgenuity activities on the day of e-learnig. Students having technical difficulties with Google Classroom or Edgenuity can email the teacher on the day of e-learning. Teachers will have access to the sign-in data to record attendance.

Families who are unable to access the Internet can submit an excused absence by calling the main office at 847-803-3705.

Communication

Students and families will learn about the expectations and student responsibilities for e-Learning days through direct communication, email and Remind text messages. Students and families will be directed to the NCYAA website, which has resources for the e-Learning Plan.

Staff

The NCYAAstaff will learn of the expectations for employees on an e-Learning day. The general expectations, responsibilities, and requirements will be provided to staff in person and via electronic communications. All staff will do their best to ensure that student learning continues beyond the classroom.

Notice to Bargaining Units

NCYAA is a union-free organization; therefore, this requirement is not applicable. However, the use of e-learning days has been discussed with the staff, who will participate in collaboration with the administration to attempt to maintain educational continuity for NCYAA students.

Program Evaluation

After holding an official e-Learning day, the NCYAA will survey and/or interview stakeholders including students, teachers, non-instructional staff, and families to gather feedback on how the e-Learning day went and how it could be improved in the future.
