Renewal
Educators will receive a reminder email from ISBE when it is time to renew their license. To renew, educators​ can log into their ELIS account starting April 1 of the year their license expires.
If your license requires professional development hours and/or Administrator Academies hours and the renewal option is not available, make sure all hours are met and entered on your Professional Development tab and adjust your employment status accordingly, if needed. You will not be able to renew until all PD/AA requirements are met.

Registration
An individual is required to register his or her license in each region where he or she teaches or in any county of the State. Otherwise license is not valid for employment.

Reinstatement
Did you miss your 2025 PEL or CTE renewal? You will no longer be eligible to work in an Illinois public school until your license is reinstated. To reinstate the license, you must complete nine semester hours of coursework in the appropriate content area(s) OR pay a $50 penalty fee, in addition to submitting any required PD, prior to reinstating and paying registration fees.
