To help schools comply with the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB), the NCISC has developed a System of Support (SoS), which focuses on school improvement to raise student achievement. Signed into law in 2002, NCLB requires elementary and secondary schools to meet federally mandated standards for student achievement, or face corrective action. As the NCLB standards rise each year, schools and school districts face increasing pressure to raise achievement levels.

Through our SoS improvement initiative, specialized teams offer customized support and assistance to schools to achieve Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) for all students. Our SoS improvement initiative is guided by school-based data planning, and is designed to reflect the unique needs of each school. NCISC's SoS initiative includes:

• Curriculum alignment, instruction and assessment
• Administrator and educator quality
• Student, parent, community and family support
