CaNCELED-Leading Major Change in Education: What the Beatles can Teach Us (ISBE # 1355)

Join us for an invigorating day of revisiting your experiences as a change agent and opening yourself to a bold new look at change in education. How did the Beatles bring about a cultural sea change in society? What happened? What can we learn from them? Our success in effecting significant change is somewhat sketchy over time. Changes come and go, often failing, fading away or surviving only minimally. Using the Beatles phenomenon as our case study, we will analyze their process and impact through the lens of change theory research and conventional application in educational leadership. Program:		This workshop aims to help school leaders recognize the “big picture” process for change. Using an approach combining research on change leadership in education with a case study of large-scale, fundamental cultural change, participants will take a new look at the change process and their roles as leaders of change. During the 1960’s, the Beatles were a dominant force in both the music and culture of the times. As innovative musicians and song writers, they pushed the limits of the rock and roll genre and their quest for excellence is evident in their sustained impact several generations later. Their leadership skills were also evident culturally, as they helped to define the look, vocabulary, fashion and values of the time. What can the study of the world’s greatest band teach us about leadership and excellence in education. The goal of the day is to answer that question with specific knowledge, strategies and skills to incorporate in your professional practice.
