Gifted Education Seminar -Targeting ELLs (Blended Curriculum Option: Cohort B)

This course is open to all educators. However, since the instructor has a background in Gifted Education and English Language Learners, there may be increased opportunities to think about how gifted education intersects with ELL students’ experiences. North Cook Learning Service Center is proud to offer teachers an opportunity to participate in the new Gifted Education Seminar (GES)---a 45-hour workshop which prepares teachers to meet the needs of all of the students in their classrooms, especially those that are gifted. Teachers will increase their awareness of gifted students in their classrooms and explore ways to differentiate instruction.

Program:Participants will attend two days of face to face instruction with a trainer. Then, they will complete the 30 hours of interactive, digital learning on their own.schedule.
  • Participants will be required to complete and submit electronic journals, to actively participate in an on-line professional community with other colleagues taking the course and to complete an independent project.
  • Teachers will receive the $125.00 worth of resources used in the program (the entire digital curriculum and 2 books: Differentiation: Simplified, Realistic, and Effective by Bertie Kingore and Achieving Excellence: Educating the Gifted and Talented edited by Frances Karnes and Kristen Stephens.
  • Participants can earn 45 CPDU’s or can choose to earn 3-hours of graduate credit from Lindenwood University for a cost of $225.00. Teachers interested in graduate credit must bring one check made out to Lindenwood University for $200.00 and another check made out to North Cook ISC for $25.00 to the orientation meeting.
  • Participants who successfully complete requirements for the course will be eligible for a $100 stipend which will be sent directly to their districts.
  • Participants will need to bring a laptop which meets the specifications below to the orientation meeting. In addition, laptops must have the ability to connect to the internet. 45-hour program does not require full-time internet connection
