Illinois New Principal Mentoring Program
North Cook ISC, Illinois Approved Mentoring Entity

Public Act 94-1039, effective July 20, 2006 established, in part, the Illinois “New Principal Mentoring Program.” Accordingly, any individual who is hired as a principal on or after July 1, 2007 (generally defined as a “new principal” for the 2007-2008 school year, regardless of hire date) must participate in a mentoring program for his or her first year as a principal. The program is subject to an annual appropriation by the Illinois General Assembly. Mentoring services can only be provided by state approved mentoring entities. NCISC is an approved mentoring entity as are over 40 other agencies in Illinois.

MENTOR OPTIONS
2008-2009
NORTH COOK INTERMEDIATE SERVICE CENTER

-Year One Principals – Option A – Eligible for State Program Funding: This option provides the basic state coaching model which meets the legal requirements of PA-94-1039. A minimum of 50 hours of face to face contact, electronic and phone contacts, and professional development are included in the program. This program is funded by the state and there is no charge to the district.

-Year One Principals – Option B ---Eligible for State Program Funding: This option includes all of Option A plus a staff development strand centered on The Boss of the Whole School. These sessions will be facilitated by Dr. Elizabeth Hebert who authored the book. Other sessions will focus on personnel issues, curriculum and teacher evaluation. As a part of their participation in the professional development, new principals will satisfy their annual Administrators’ Academy requirement. All sessions will be held at the NCISC regional center in DesPlaines. This charge for this option is an additional $1000 above the state reimbursement for the mentoring program.

-Mentoring for Principals not Included in the State Program – Option C: This is a highly personalized option for experienced principals who can benefit from the renewal and growth intrinsic in an effective mentoring relationship. It is designed for those principals experiencing a transition in their work as well as those striving for a higher level of performance. This option includes face to face meetings with the mentor in addition to a series of targeted staff development activities. The district fee for this option is $5000.

-Mentoring for Central Office Administrators -- This year North Cook is offering districts the opportunity to provide mentoring services for central office personnel who are new to their positions. This mentoring will be offered by experienced consultants in our region. Mentoring is available in the following areas: human resources, curriculum, and special education. The district fee for this option is $5000.
